Artist Spotlight - @JermelFuego

Jermel Fuego is a 23 year old artist and songwriter from Harlem, New York who realized his passion for rhyming at a young age. At the age of 8 his teacher gave a homework assignment in which the students had to tell a story through rhyming, he recalls "this was my first artistic experience and I liked it but ended up losing the assignment so I felt it wasn't meant to be."
A few years later in 2009, he began posting quotes on Facebook, because of his fear of being criticized he disguised his quotes as coming from artists such as Drake, Kendrick Lamar and J Cole. In 2010 he began making beats on his ipod, he explains "At first I was f*cking around. Then in 2011 I got serious but at some point I got discouraged because no one was taking it as serious as I was." Jermel experienced what many artists do when trying to build a fanbase, not getting feedback which in turn causes many to downplay their talent. In 2012 Jermel met songwriters (twin sisters) Alaire and Abriell who encouraged him to start rapping. For the next two years he focused on finding his sound and in 2014 he started going to the studio. Once 2015 rolled around he released his first track from his upcoming album "A Hero Ain't Nothing But A Sandwhich." His upcoming project is based off of a 1978 book/film entitled "A Hero Ain't Nothing But A Sandwhich" which is about a boy who faces the struggle of dealing with his father leaving and turning to friends and others as a coping mechanism. He tries heroin and his life takes a turn, all the while two teachers inspire him to better things. The moral is pretty much to overcome struggles and adversity even when it seems all the odds are against you.

The first track released from "A Hero Ain't Nothing But A Sandwich" is titled "UGK"
Jermel decided on that title because he as an underground artist and feels he's "in his own lane and his own world so who is to say he's not King." Within this track he shares with listeners an insight to his love life and his relationship with his family. A great introduction as an opener to who Jermel Fuego is and a bit of what he is about.

The second track released from his upcoming project, my favorite, is titled "KISSING (PAGE9) - the reason for the page number is that the project is laid out as if it were a book. With a memorable hook "K-I-S-S-I-N-G first comes love f*ck wit me, that's how this sh*t started" -  I find myself randomly singing that catchy hook often. Only two songs released but it's clear he has something dope in store for all of his listeners.
Jermels projet will be dropping in early 2016!
